Lighting

Lighting is everything. It sets the mood, sculpts the subject, and gives depth to your story. I use a mix of flash, continuous light, and reflectors depending on the project. Whether I’m in the studio or on location, my gear needs to be reliable, portable, and versatile.

In this section, I’ll walk you through the lighting tools I trust—from Profoto flashes to Westcott reflectors and scrims. Let’s start with the unsung heroes of lighting: reflectors.

Reflectors & Scrims

Control the Light Without Adding More

Light doesn’t always need to come from a flash. Some of the most powerful lighting tools don’t produce light at all—they shape it. These reflectors, scrims, and modifiers are essential parts of my kit. Whether I’m softening sunlight, bouncing light indoors, or creating perfect catchlights, these tools help sculpt the scene exactly the way I envision it.

Profoto Collapsible Reflector (Silver/White)
A simple, essential tool for balancing light. The silver side adds contrast and punch, while the white softens and spreads light evenly. I always recommend this to photographers just starting their light kits.

Westcott Scrim Jim White
Great for diffusing harsh light. I use it on outdoor shoots or when working with natural sunlight to create a soft, flattering result. Simple, effective, and always in my lighting bag.

Westcott Omega Reflector Kit
A standout reflector. The cut-out center lets you shoot through the reflector while controlling the light perfectly around the face. Comes with five surfaces for maximum versatility.

Westcott Eyelighter
Specifically made for beauty and portraits. Its curved shape creates beautiful catchlights that follow the natural curve of the iris—ideal for studio headshots or fashion work.

Westcott Scrim Jim Cine (Silver/White Bounce Fabric)
This one is all about control. The silver side bounces hard, specular light, while the white side gives a soft glow. I use it for both fashion editorials and on-location work where sunlight needs shaping.

 Westcott Fast Flags Scrim Kit
Compact and fast to set up, this kit is perfect when I need precision flagging or diffusion. It’s especially useful in tight studio spaces or when time is limited on set.

 Westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit (6-in-1)
One of the most flexible tools I own. You just zip on a different surface—silver, gold, black, white, translucent, or soft gold—depending on the look you’re going for. Total control in one compact tool.

Continuous Light

Continuous lighting plays a major role in both my photography and video projects. Whether I’m crafting cinematic scenes or lighting a quick portrait, these tools let me see my light in real time. What I look for: portability, flexibility, and color accuracy. These are the continuous lights I trust in the studio and on location.

Peragos Head 150C Multi-Color RGBW LED Monolight
A full-featured, color-tunable LED monolight that gives me full-spectrum RGB output and multiple modes. Whether I’m lighting a scene for content creation or setting a mood for a creative shoot, this light gives me flexibility and accuracy in one compact form.

Peragos Disk 30C RGBWW Video Light
Small but powerful. This round, compact light is perfect for accent lighting and creative effects. With full RGB control and color temperature adjustment, it’s my go-to for visual storytelling when I want something expressive, colorful, or moody.

Westcott Ice Light
A compact LED wand that’s ultra-portable and daylight-balanced. I use this handheld light for run-and-gun setups or soft fill on location. It’s lightweight but delivers a clean, soft beam that flatters skin and contours beautifully.

Flex Cine Daylight Mat 1-Light Set
This pliable LED mat gives me control and coverage, even in tricky setups. With a 5600K daylight output and up to 97 CRI, it delivers clean, flicker-free light that’s perfect for interviews, product shoots, or editorial work. I love how it wraps around a subject for soft, even illumination.

Flash Triggers

The Silent Heroes of Light Control

Good light starts with a good connection. Triggers are a critical part of my setup—ensuring every flash fires exactly when and how I want it to. Whether I’m shooting in the studio, underwater, or on location, these tools keep my lighting synced and my workflow smooth. Profoto Connect

This small, intuitive trigger is my go-to when working with the Profoto A1 or underwater with my Outex gear. It’s minimalist and portable, with auto and manual modes that make it effortless to use in fast-paced environments.

Flash Lighting

Power, Precision, and Portability

When it comes to flash, I rely on lighting that’s fast, reliable, and built to perform—whether I’m in the studio or shooting on location. I use both Profoto and Westcott systems because they offer unmatched color consistency, output control, and versatility. Each piece in my flash kit serves a distinct role, giving me the freedom to shape light exactly how I need it.

 Profoto Air Remote
An essential in my daily kit. The Air Remote gives me full wireless control over my Profoto flashes. I use it on nearly every shoot—it’s reliable, easy to adjust on the fly, and lets me focus on the creative without interruptions.

Westcott FJ-X2m Universal Trigger
This versatile trigger works seamlessly across multiple camera brands, including Canon, Nikon, Sony (with adapter), Fuji, Panasonic, and Olympus. I use it with my Westcott FJ400 setup to maintain consistent wireless control, no matter the body I’m using.

Profoto A1 Studio Light
This isn’t just a flash—it’s a portable studio light. With a built-in modeling light and fast recycle time, I can see results in real time. Perfect as an on-camera flash or as part of a multi-light setup, it’s compact enough to take anywhere but powerful enough for professional results.

Profoto B10 OCF Flash Head
This head revolutionized location lighting. It’s incredibly compact yet delivers studio-level performance. I use it for dynamic shoots where mobility and fast setup matter. The quality is unbeatable, and it’s easy to pair with modifiers on the go.

Profoto B10 Plus OCF Flash Head
Everything I love about the B10—but with more power. It’s a true workhorse. I use it both in-studio and on location, and one of its best features is dual power use: battery or plugged in. It’s become a must-have for shoots where I need that extra boost.

Westcott FJ400 Strobe 2-Light
Incredibly dependable and color-accurate. The FJ400 delivers consistent output and quick recycle time. It’s portable but powerful—perfect for high-volume sessions and creative sets alike. With AC/DC flexibility and 400Ws of output, it fits seamlessly into any shoot flow.

Creative Lighting & Light Painting

When Light Becomes the Brush

Sometimes, lighting isn’t just about illuminating—it’s about storytelling. Light painting lets me step out of traditional boundaries and create images that feel more like moving memories than static photos. I use this kit to experiment with long exposures, colors, and surreal visual effects that bring energy and emotion into the frame.

LIGHT MODIFIERS

Light is everything — but how you shape it is what defines your style. Light modifiers are the tools I use to control softness, direction, and contrast. Whether I’m shooting a polished fashion editorial, a raw portrait, or a detailed product still, the right modifier makes all the difference. From softboxes and umbrellas to grids and beauty dishes, each piece in my kit serves a unique purpose. Some are compact and quick to set up on location, others are built for precision in the studio. What matters is knowing how to use them to bring your creative vision to life.

BEAUTY DISH

This is the classic — and for good reason. It gives a beautiful mix of soft and directional light. I’ve never met someone who didn’t love how they looked under a beauty dish.

AMBITFUL AL-16 Bowens / Profoto Mount Conical Optical Focalize Condenser
One of my favorite tools for adding drama and precision. This optical snoot-style condenser comes with 8 colored gels and 16 gobos, allowing me to project patterns or shapes with incredible focus. It’s perfect for creative portraits or theatrical lighting.

PROFOTO OCF COLOR EFFECTS / OCF GEL KIT
I love the creative freedom gels give me. Whether I’m adding subtle warmth, balancing color temperatures, or creating bold looks, these Profoto OCF gels help me shape mood and tone with light. They’re fast to mount and perfect for experimenting with color.

PROFOTO DEEP SILVER UMBRELLA EXTRA

When I want contrast and crispness, this is my pick. The reflective silver interior gives more specular highlights and controlled shadows.

Camera Straps

Having the right camera strap is all about comfort, speed, and peace of mind. Whether I’m on set, traveling, or shooting street style, straps keep my gear secure and ready to use at a moment’s notice. Here are a few I rely on most:

Storage Solutions

Storage is the backbone of any photographer’s workflow. From lightning-fast cards on set to rugged SSDs in the field and massive drives for long-term archiving, having a dependable system is non-negotiable. Over the years, I’ve built a storage workflow that’s secure, fast, and client-ready — both on the go and in the studio.

TETHERING

Tethering is a must in any professional workflow. It allows for instant feedback, client previews, and accurate exposure and focus checks in real-time. Whether you’re in studio or on location, having reliable cables and intuitive tools like a pen tablet elevates both speed and precision.
