Building a Creative Community Together

School of Seeing is built on the belief that learning in photography is strengthened through community. Developed by FSOS – Stories of Solidarity, it brings together photographers and visual artists in a shared space for learning, exchange, and collective growth. The platform draws on the experience and vision of its founder, João Carlos, whose decades of work as a photographer and educator help shape its educational direction. At the same time, School of Seeing is intentionally collaborative, welcoming invited artists, speakers, and practitioners who contribute diverse perspectives and practices. Together, this community creates an environment where ideas circulate freely, practice is valued over performance, and learning happens through dialogue, experimentation, and reflection. Courses, live conversations, portfolio discussions, and shared challenges are designed to support both artistic development and professional awareness. At its core, School of Seeing exists to nurture a learning community grounded in shared knowledge, mutual support, and a thoughtful approach to visual storytelling.

Your Mentor: João Carlos, 25+ Years of Experience, Global Brand Ambassador, Award-Winning Photographer

School of Seeing was founded by photographer and educator João Carlos as part of the educational mission of FSOS – Stories of Solidarity. Built on more than 25 years of experience, the platform reflects a long-term commitment to visual literacy, creative practice, and sustainable professional growth.

João’s work moves between personal authorship, commissioned projects, and education, bringing together artistic experimentation and real-world experience. His teaching philosophy, shaped by decades of practice, is grounded in resilience, reflection, and the understanding that creative growth is inseparable from lived experience.

While his vision helps define the direction of School of Seeing, the platform is intentionally collaborative. Learning is shaped by invited artists, speakers, and practitioners who contribute diverse perspectives across photography, visual culture, and professional practice.

Through courses, conversations, and shared learning experiences, School of Seeing supports photographers and visual artists at different stages of their journey, from early exploration to refined authorship. More than a place of instruction, it is a learning community shaped by dialogue, mutual support, and a thoughtful approach to seeing and storytelling.
