why did we creat the light deck
My need to create the LIGHT DECK comes from growing up and always having difficulties learning at school. it’s not that I didn’t like school, however, I suffered from mild Dyslexia and my teachers would often say on my report cards things like,
- Seems to “Zone out” or daydream often; gets lost easily or loses track of time.
- Difficulty sustaining attention; seems “hyper” or “daydreamer.”
- Learns best through hands-on experience, demonstrations, experimentation, observation, and visual aids.
why the idea of the light deck
After my experience teaching at Etic some years ago and my current regular teaching position at IPCI, I noticed some of my students responded better to me drawing out light setups on the whiteboard in class. My first workshop with Joao was back in 2011 when he visited Toronto, Canada. It was an intensive three day workshop on Fashion photography. And to this date, it is the best workshop I have attended. I remember on one assignment, I was having difficultly finding an angle that suited the model and the wardrobe. Joao came over and looked at the back of my camera to scroll through the images I had taken already. He turned to me and said that I was allowed to take only one more shot. This forced me to really look at the way I approached taking a photo and discover the difference of taking a snap shot and creating an image.
